Guest at Squid Friday, May 22

I will be bringing a guest to Squid Friday. Lauren Van Zandt will be attending on her 21st birthday. She doesn't drink, but I'm going to let her buy me Blue Moon on her birthday for practice. (Actually, she'll probably go through with her threat to get a mohito or a drink with an umbrella in it.)

I suppose there's a chance that Martin might be there to give us his lecture on "Elvis, Psychedelia, and How to 'trad that bility'" It could be a real eye-opener, but I'm already prepared.

LAST CALL: Chelsea's liquor license pulled

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It's last call for Chelsea's Cafe.

District Court Judge Trudy White has upheld a decision by Louisiana's Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC) to revoke Chelsea's liquor license.

During a 30 minute hearing Tuesday morning, supporters wearing Chelsea's t-shirts packed the courtroom and often cheered at testimony from lawyers representing the popular restaurant.

Chelsea's Cafe is located on Perkins Road, under the Perkins Road overpass in Baton Rouge.

The restaurant's liquor license was suspended last Tuesday after the ATC says owners were operating the establishment as a bar and not as a restaurant.

Chelsea's is only licensed to operate as a restaurant.

The ATC claims that on certain nights, Chelsea's was charging a cover charge and not allowing anyone under age 21 to enter the establishment.

Lawyers for Chelsea's asked for and recieved a temporary restraining order last Wednesday allowing them to continue selling alcohol until today's hearing.

The owner of the popular establishment says without the ability to sell alcohol, he will be forced to shut down, causing 55 people to lose their jobs.

The suspension of Chelsea's liquor license is indefinite.

There is another hearing on the matter scheduled for May 4. At that time, the judge could resconsider the revocation of Chelsea's liquor license.

Happy Squid Day!

It's already 7PM on Friday here, so I'm way ahead of you. Jon just called from the office and he's just now leaving, which means it'll be 8:00 before he gets home...grrrr! Not a good way to start the weekend.

I've posted yet another entry in the journal. I'm on a roll. I'm all caught up now, which is good because we have 2 sets of guests coming in next week. The last one leaves on May 10th, so we'll be pretty busy until then.

Here's a special photo, just for you guys, of Jon's squid appetizer from the shabu-shabu restaurant mentioned in the journal. I have to say, it looks pretty gross. I tried one though, and it didn't taste bad. They were stuffed with something. Anyway, if you weren't ready for squid day before, this should put you in the mood.
